Projects

Open research and technical work. What I'm exploring, how I do it, and what comes out of it.

Research workbench with field notebook, technical equipment and Asturian gaita chanter

Research in the open

Here I document my technical and research projects: the question they chase, the method and tools, and what I publish along the way. I work from the root —the gaita and Asturian traditional music— towards what technology lets you say that you couldn't before.

These are my lines of work: the ones I keep open and the ones I've already closed. For each I say what it is, when I worked on it, and where it landed.

    Automatic Transcription of Polyphonic Music

Ongoing doctoral research on AMT (Automatic Music Transcription): converting a recording where multiple notes sound simultaneously into a machine-readable score. The working corpus is piano, with current state-of-the-art systems as a starting point.

    CHALGA Workshop

A lutherie workshop using 3D printing that explored how to build traditional music instruments with accessible tools. From it came XIBLA, a 3D-printed flute for taking first steps in Asturian traditional music without the barrier of cost.

Gaita Hero — Final Degree Project

Final project for a Computer Engineering degree: my first personal work in music informatics. I built a system that let players perform on the Asturian bagpipe alongside a rhythm game, turning the chanter into a MIDI controller and exploring the intersection between instrumental learning and game mechanics.

Gaita Hero — Game and Musical Track

Ten years after the original degree project, Gaita Hero came back as a playable game and at the same time as a song. The same core idea — learning to play alongside a rhythm game — became a piece that works on two planes: as an interactive experience and as a musical track with its own identity.
